Magazine: WSSU a top degree producer for African Americans
Diverse: Issues in Higher Education has again placed Winston-Salem State University on its list of “Top 100 Degree Producers.”
For bachelor’s degrees awarded to African Americans, WSSU is no. 13 among Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and No. 45 among all universities.
Among North Carolina universities, WSSU ranks as the no. 1 producer of African Americans bachelor’s degrees in three individual categories: Register Nursing, Health Professions, and Health and Medical Administrative Services.
WSSU also ranks in the top 100 in the nation for bachelor’s degrees in 16 individual categories, including these rankings for African Americans:
- No. 7, Parks, Recreation, Leisure and Fitness Studies.
- No. 12, Health Professions and Related Programs.
- No. 12, Rehabilitation for Therapeutic Programs
- No. 14, Registered Nursing (RN)
- No. 14, Health and Medical Administrative Services
- No. 25, Liberal Arts and Sciences and Humanities
- No. 32, Computer and Information Sciences and Support Services
- No. 36, Education
- No. 47, Physical Sciences
In addition, three WSSU graduate programs are ranked:
- Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling, No. 12 for African Americans, and No. 71 for all minorities.
- Master of Science in Nursing, No. 42 for African Americans.
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), No. 24 for African Americans.
The annual list, based on 2015-16 data collected by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics, was published in the magazine’s Aug. 24 issue.
