Your Transfer Experience

At WSSU, you are classified as a transfer student if you have:

• graduated from high school, obtained a General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or obtained an Adult High School diploma;
  
  AND
• are attending (or have attended) a two-year or four-year college or university; and have at least 24 transferable credit hours with cumulative 2.0 GPA; and are in good standing.

OR

• obtained an Associate of Arts or Science degree from a regionally accredited two-year institution.

OR

• earned a Transfer Core Diploma or Transfer Readiness Diploma from a North Carolina Community College.

When to Apply

Transfer students are encouraged to apply early and complete all application requirements as soon as possible. The timeframe to process the application and complete the transfer credit process may take up to three weeks. WSSU continues to accept applications on a rolling basis until the class is filled.

If you have, or are pursuing, an Associate's degree from a North Carolina Community College, these program-specific transfer guides will help you to transfer seamlessly from you previous NCCC institution.

• Consult with an academic advisor at your first college and your WSSU transfer coordinator to learn about articulation agreements that determine how your courses will transfer.

Students can transfer credits into WSSU through courses taken at regionally accredited institutions and/or placement tests. For credits to transfer, you must have earned a minimum of a C in the courses level 100/1000 or higher.

Total Transfer Credit Hours Allotted

• Coursework completed at a two-year institution; the maximum number of transferable credits is 64.

• Coursework completed at a four-year institution; the maximum number of transferable credits is 90.

• Coursework completed at both a two-year and a four-year institution; the maximum number of transferable credits is 90.

You may request an official score report from the following organizations for consideration of college credit:

• AP (Advanced Placement): Request AP score reports from the College Board here

1. Connect with your academic advisor at your first college and learn about articulation agreements that determine how your courses will transfer.
2. Speak with your WSSU transfer coordinator and/or attend a WSSU transfer event early in your transfer planning.

1. Complete an application. Apply using the transfer admissions application.
2. Submit the application fee. Make your payment within the application portal.
3. Submit appropriate documentation. Include official transcripts.

• Official transcripts should be sent from the high school or college directly to admissions@wssu.edu or mailed to WSSU Admissions Office 601 S. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. Thompson Center 206 Winston-Salem, NC 27110
• High school counselors can mail high school transcripts or send them electronically via a recognized transcript delivery service such as Common App, CFNC, Naviance, National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment or Slate.org. View a step-by-step guide on sending transcripts through CFNC.
• College transcripts must be ordered by the student directly from each prior institution (Registrar or Records office) and be sent directly to WSSU.

1. Fill out a free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
2. Connect with WSSU's Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Scholarships

WSSU offers Transfer Scholarships to new transfer students for the incoming Fall semester only. The application to the institution will serve as your scholarship application. Additionally, you are required to complete the FASFA.

WSSU Merit Based Transfer Scholarships
WSSU offers merit-based scholarship for transfer students who have demonstrated strong academic achievement.

• Associate's to Bachelor's Scholarship*: up to $3,000
• General Transfer Scholarship* (must have 24 transferrable credit hours): up to $1,000
• Trailblazing Ram Scholarship: up to $500

The Trailblazing Ram Scholarship is a merit-based transfer scholarship specifically for students who have attended Forsyth Technical Community College and are transferring to Winston-Salem State University. It is designed to support and recognize students from Forsyth Tech who have demonstrated strong academic achievement.

2. Review your official transfer credit evaluation provided by the university.
3. Accept your decision.
