Planned power outage scheduled June 1-3

Power to portions of the Winston-Salem State University campus will be shut off next weekend, while major repairs are made to the university’s electrical infrastructure, WSSU's Facilities Management has announced. 

The scheduled power outage will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 1, and continue through the afternoon on Sunday, June 3. Email updates will be provided if the project is completed earlier.

During the outage, C.G. O’Kelly Library, the Donald J. Reaves Student Activities Center, and the University Bookstore will be closed. Due to reduced services on campus, students are encouraged to make plans to return home for the weekend.

Food service will be provided for on-campus students in the Anderson Center.

The following buildings will be affected by the shutdown:

  • Alumni House
  • Atkins Residence Hall
  • Blair Hall
  • Brown Hall
  • C.G. O’Kelly Library
  • Carolina Hall
  • Cleon F. Thompson Center
  • Coltrane Hall
  • Donald J. Reaves Student Activities Center
  • Eller Hall
  • Elva J. Jones Computer Science Building
  • F.L. Atkins (Building and Annex)
  • Fine Arts
  • Gaines/Whitaker
  • Hall Patterson Building
  • Kenneth R. Williams Auditorium
  • Main Campus Annex
  • Martin-Schexnider Hall
  • Moore Hall
  • Old Maintenance
  • Physical Plant
  • Police and Public Safety
  • R.J. Reynolds Center
  • S.G. Atkins House
  • Student Success Center at Hill Hall
  • W.B. Atkinson Science Building 

Employees will not be allowed in the buildings during the power outage.

WSSU's Facilities Management is reminding employees to:

  • Empty refrigerators of all food items before they leave on Friday. 
  • Close out all programs and shut down computers at the end of the day on Friday.

WSSU Police and Public Safety will be fully operational throughout the outage. Police can be reached at 336-750-2911 (emergency) or 336-750-2900 (non-emergency). Police are also reminding people to not call with questions regarding the outage.
