McMullen named associate vice chancellor for Facility Management

Timothy F. McMullen, who brings nearly four decades of experience as an architect and project manager, has been named associate vice chancellor for Facility Management at Winston-Salem State University. 

McMullen joined WSSU in 2016 as director of Facilities Design and Construction. After a 28-year career as a practicing architect, McMullen, has spent the past 10 years in higher education facilities management. 

In this new role, McMullen will provide leadership in the overall planning, funding, design, construction, operation and maintenance of university facilities.

“Tim brings a breadth of experience in architectural design, engineering, and program and project management that will enhance WSSU’s strategic goals, ensure programmatic fidelity, fiscal responsibility and environmental sustainability,” said Constance Mallette, vice chancellor for the Division of Finance and Administration and chief financial officer for WSSU. “We are very happy to have someone of his exceptional professional skills, experience and talents to assist in leading the university toward its strategic goals.”

His promotion was effective Aug. 1.

During his tenure at WSSU, McMullen has directed the design and construction of over $90 million in new capital projects, repairs and renovations. He also managed the development of the university’s 20-year master plan.

McMullen, a native of Charlotte, received his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University.

Student, faculty member honored with King ‘Building the Dream’ Award

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr., two members of the Ramily were recognized during a joint program of Winston-Salem State University and Wake Forest University on the official federal holiday honoring the civil rights icon. Student Nia James and faculty member Maestra D’Walla Simmons-Burke were the 2025 honorees.
