Endia Beal, director of the Diggs Gallery and an assistant professor of art, was honored by Governor Roy Cooper and first lady Kristin Cooper during a Black History Month reception at the governor’s mansion on Feb. 14. The reception paid tribute to African American artists and musicians in North Carolina.
Angela Moore, administrative support specialist for the University Wellness Center, completed the coursework to sit for the Certified Professional Biller (CPB) exam through the American Academy Professional Coders (AAPC) and successfully passed to become a Certified Professional Biller.
Cindy Strine, director of University Recreation (UREC), has received the Western Kentucky University NIRSA Alumni of the Year 2019 award. The award recognizes an individual’s professional accomplishments in the field of recreational sports and service to the community.
Peggy Valentine, dean of the School of Health Sciences; Aaron Jackson, coordinator of the Rams Know H.O.W. Mobile Unit; and Diamond Bynam, a junior healthcare management major, presented research at the University of North Carolina System 2019 Student Success Conference. Their topic was: “Use of HBCU-Community Partnerships to Engage Students in High-Impact Learning.”
Byron White, an officer with WSSU Police and Public Safety, has been promoted to corporal, effective March 1.
Student Recognition
Shekinah Bass, a senior chemistry major from Raleigh, won the second-place award at the 2019 Emerging Researchers National Conference in STEM, held Feb. 21-23 in Washington, D.C. Her poster won second place in the 2019 ERN Conference in STEM Undergraduate Poster Presentation in chemistry. Dynasty Parker, a senior chemistry major from Washington, D.C., also presented a poster at the conference. Both students are mentored Fenghai Guo.
Jonathan Morris, a senior business administration major from Washington, D.C., placed in the top 10 at the 14th annual Mister HBCU Kings Competition, which was held on Feb. 3 at Lincoln University of Missouri. Morris serves as the 2018-19 Mister Winston-Salem State University.
