Ranking: WSSU has #1 online nursing program in North Carolina
Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) has the no. 1 online RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program in North Carolina, according to a new ranking.
The ranking, from the advocacy website RegisteredNursing.org, factors in the overall quality, flexibility and cost of nursing programs across North Carolina.
“It’s always good to see WSSU’s Division of Nursing recognized for our commitment to excellence," said Dr. Cecil Holland, associate dean and chief operating officer of nursing for WSSU. "This is testimony to the persistence of our faculty to make our programs the best."
Now that the RN-to-BSN option is 100% online, it’s even more convenient for working nurses to earn their baccalaureate degree and advance their careers, Holland said.
This is one of two recent accolades for WSSU’s nursing program. Last month, the website nurse.org ranked WSSU one of the top 10 universities in North Carolina for nursing.
“A focus for Winston-Salem State University is getting students a career after graduating,” the website notes. “Finding a job will be relatively easy for graduates of their BSN program.”
The ranking from nurse.org – selected by professional RNs – is based on reputation, NCLEX pass rate, tuition, acceptance rate.
WSSU has been a leader in nursing education for more than 60 years, and the RN-to-BSN option has been helping RNs take the next stop in their careers for nearly 30 years. WSSU is the largest producer of BSNs for African Americans in North Carolina.
Other Recent Program Rankings
WSSU academic programs have also received these recent accolades.
Graphic Design
WSSU ranks no. 5 in North Carolina on Animation Career Review’s rankings of the “Top Graphic Design School Programs in North Carolina for 2019.”
The rankings are based on academic reputation, value added as it relates to tuition and indebtedness; admissions selectivity; and depth and breadth of the program, according to the website. WSSU is the only HBCU on the list.
WSSU offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art with a concentration in computer graphics through its Department of Art + Visual Studies. Students in the program must complete a studio practice and complete an internship. They also participate in the senior exhibit at Diggs Gallery prior to graduating.
The publication surveyed more than 700 colleges and universities for its annual rankings.
Healthcare Management
WSSU’s healthcare management program is among the best in the nation, according to the The Bachelor’s Degree Center's “25 Best Healthcare Administration Degree Programs for 2019" rankings.
WSSU is the only North Carolina-based university to rank. The ranking is based on reputation, cost, graduate employment and graduation rate, according to the publication.
