Help send the Red Sea of Sound to the 2020 Honda Battle of the Bands

Ram fans can help send Winston-Salem State University’s (WSSU) Red Sea of Sound marching band to the 2020 Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase.

The Red Sea of Sound is one of 32 Historically Black College and University (HBCU) marching bands competing for a spot in the event, which will be at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Jan. 25. Eight bands will be invited to participate.

The event spotlights the premier marching bands from HBCUs.

When it was last held in 2018, 62,000 fans, students and alumni took part in the event.


VOTE ONLINE FOR THE RED SEA OF SOUND

Fans can vote up to once per day. Voting continues through midnight on Saturday, Oct. 12.

WSSU's band, which opened the season as ESPN/The Undefeated's no. 1 Division II HBCU band, performed for the first time with Wake Forest University's Sprit of the Old Gold and Black on Aug. 30. On Sept. 20, the RSOS performed on ESPN's "First Take," as part of a live show for HBCU Week in Wilmington, Delaware. 

Since 2008, WSSU has participated in the showcase six times (2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2017). The band is directed by Dr. Michael Magruder, chair of the Department of Music.

Preservation North Carolina presents “We Built This: Profiles of Black Architects and Builders in North Carolina.” The exhibit will be held March 1-31 at the C.G. O’Kelly Library on the campus of Winston-Salem State University.
