WSSU ranks high on national lists in 2020
Winston-Salem State University continues to rank high on national lists. Even amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the university’s focus on offering its students a top-notch educational experience has not wavered.
Here’s a list of some of WSSU’s notable 2020 rankings.
No. 1 HBCU in the nation for social mobility
Technology provider and creator of the Social Mobility Index (SMI), CollegeNET, ranks WSSU as the No. 1 HBCU and North Carolina institution for social mobility. The SMI measures the number of under resourced students a college or university educates at affordable tuition rates and graduates them into promising careers.
No. 2 HBCU in U.S. for value
Money Magazine ranks WSSU as the No. 2 HBCU in the nation for its quality and affordability. For the third consecutive year, Money recognized WSSU as a leading institution for educational excellence and “value-added” graduation rates.
North Carolina’s top 10 best-value colleges
WSSU is ranked among the top 10 best value colleges and universities in North Carolina. The rankings, released by smartasset.com, determines these classifications based on tuition, student housing costs, scholarship and grant offerings, student retention rates and the starting salary for recent graduates. WSSU is only one of two historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU) to make this list.
Top 10 HBCUs Changing the World
“A degree from Winston-Salem motivates all your dreams,” says College Magazine, the national guide to campus life. This is why WSSU was chosen as one of the top 10 HBCUs that is changing the world. According to the online publication, WSSU is the ultimate school for Black professionals who want careers in the medical field. WSSU graduates the greatest number of Black students into health professions in North Carolina.
WSSU is also the only HBCU to offer a bachelor’s degree in Motorsport Management. This program complements NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity program and gives students many hands-on learning experiences to diversify NASCAR. “Everyone deserves equality and with WSSU, students get the best education to help them challenge the status quo,” the website notes. WSSU and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University are the only North Carolina universities to make the list.
Top 25 Best HBCUs in the U.S.
WSSU is recognized as a top institution in the country. College Raptor, the online site that helps students with college planning, ranks institutions based on a combination of factors including graduation rates, campus diversity, endowment per student, and other key metrics as reported by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) for the most recently available enrollment year. “Since 2015, we’ve carefully assembled our lists … to highlight the best schools in different categories to help families get started in the discovery process,” said Bill Staib, College Raptor CEO. "Winston-Salem has shown dedication to academic excellence. We are proud to highlight them.” Coming in at number nine, WSSU is the one of three North Carolina schools to make the top 10 list.
The Best Historically Black Colleges and Universities
According to Successful Student, an online publication that helps students navigate higher education, WSSU ranks in the top 20 as the best HBCU out of the 102 in the nation. “Students are provided with the resources, support, and guidance they need to make it through years of critical study that will set them up for a lifetime,” the site notes. The online publication also acknowledged WSSU for its active social and student life. “Beyond the classroom, students look to get involved in organizations, social clubs, and hobbies that will help them build skills to serve them later on in life,” says successfulstudent.org.
#1 Most Instagrammed College in North Carolina
#WSSU caught the attention of telecommunications giant AT&T. The multinational conglomerate holding company ranks WSSU as the most instagrammed college in North Carolina based on enrollment, the physical campus, and the college’s promoted Instagram hashtag or most popular hashtag. The company found that each student at WSSU post at an average of 62 times about the university, which is the highest of any institution in the nation. 2020 Most Affordable Online DPT Programs
WSSU’s Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy (tDPT) program is featured on OnlineU’s 2020 Most Affordable Colleges rankings. OnlineU’s mission is to help aspiring students find online degrees with the best value. WSSU’s tDPT program, a curriculum for licensed physical therapists who seek to advance their careers as practitioners, ranks No. 3 on a national scale based on its fully online status and accreditation status. The 24-credit program can be completed in four semesters, although students have up to three years to graduate. Applicants with master's degree can transfer up to six credits.
Best Online RN to BSN Program
WSSU’s online RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is now the best in the nation after being ranked no. 3 in 2019. According to RegisteredNursing.org, WSSU’s program has an innovative curriculum that is affordable and highly flexible for registered nurses who want to advance their nursing education quickly. “In just one year of study, students enrolled in WSSU’s online RN to BSN program can have their bachelor’s degree in hand,” the website notes. RegisteredNursing.org determines the rankings for the “Best Online RN to BSN Programs” by measuring the program’s overall quality, completion rate, cost, and number of tenured faculty - to name a few.
#1 no GRE master’s in healthcare administration online program
WSSU has the no. 1 most affordable no GRE master’s in healthcare administration online program. According to bestcollegesonline.org, WSSU’s Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program is the best in the nation based on accreditation, raw affordability, and rankings in national publications. WSSU is one of only two North Carolina-based universities and the only HBCU to make the list. “The program focuses on developing healthcare leaders with the skills needed to effectively manage business functions specific to healthcare settings and organizations,” the site notes. “The program is 100 percent online, asynchronous and taught by the same professors that teach on campus.”
