WSSU receives 2021-22 Military Friendly School designation
Winston-Salem State University has been recognized once again as a Top 10 Military Friendly School for its caring and supportive learning environment for veteran and military students.
WSSU is one of two historically Black institutions in North Carolina to receive the ranking and the only Triad university. The designation places WSSU in the “Gold” category among small public colleges and universities (less than 10,000 students) for its leading practices, outcomes, and effective programs.
"It's important that service members are able to find the right fit when they are considering a college program," said Joel Lee, assistant vice chancellor of Enrollment Management. “Lists like these remove the guesswork and direct our military-affiliated students to schools that will serve them well. I’m happy that WSSU has been chosen as one of those institutions. This is an amazing achievement and evidence of our commitment to offer support to this population and make sure that they succeed.”
The designation process includes extensive research and a data-driven survey of leading companies and colleges nationwide. WSSU is one of 162 schools in the nation to be selected for the “Gold” award status.
The list of 2021-22 Military Friendly Schools will be published in G.I. Jobs Magazine’s May and October editions – just in time for college enrollment periods. WSSU will be featured in the December issue of the magazine. You can view the full list of schools on the Military Friendly website.
Nearly 400 active-duty, veterans and military-affiliated students attend WSSU.
