WSSU’s Dr. Hossein Khalili named to 'Marquis Who’s Who' for global leadership in healthcare education
Dr. Hossein Khalili, professor and senior associate dean of academic administration in the Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) School of Health Sciences, has been selected for inclusion in “Marquis Who’s Who” in recognition of his notable accomplishments, global visibility, and leadership in healthcare education and interprofessional collaboration.
Since joining WSSU in 2023, Khalili has continued his groundbreaking work in health care transformation, driven by a career focused on interprofessional education and collaborative practice (IPECP). He is also the president of InterprofessionalResearch.Global, an organization advancing international research to improve healthcare delivery. Under his leadership, the group has led major collaborative initiatives across academic and clinical settings since 2012.
This recognition reflects the body of work I’ve had the privilege to lead in health care education and interprofessional collaboration,” Khalili said. “It’s both a personal milestone and a meaningful acknowledgment of the academic and professional communities I’ve been fortunate to serve – especially here at WSSU.”
In addition to his academic leadership, Khalili is a distinguished scholar and fellow of the National Academies of Practice (NAP), co-facilitator and chair of the Evidence Collaborative Committee, and an active member of the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative. These roles highlight his commitment to creating more integrated, team-based approaches to healthcare and education.
“Dr. Khalili brings a truly global perspective to the School of Health Sciences,” said Dr. Leslee Battle, Dean of the School of Health Sciences at WSSU. “His expertise in interprofessional collaboration, research and innovation elevate the work we do every day and helps position WSSU as a leader in preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals.”
Prior to WSSU, Khalili served as director of the UW Centre for Interprofessional Practice and Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2019–2023), where he helped shape future-ready healthcare education. He continues to serve as an adjunct research professor at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada, a position he has held since 2018.
Earlier in his career, Khalili coordinated international nursing education initiatives at Fanshawe College and served as associate editor for journals such as the “Journal of Interprofessional Care” and “The Clinical Teacher.” He also supported internationally educated nurses as an employer engagement lead at the CARE Centre in Ontario.
Khalili earned his doctorate degree in leadership in nursing education from Western University in 2013, following a Master of Science in medical-surgical nursing education and a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Iran.
