Biography

Dr. Brown is the Gerontology Program Coordinator and an assistant professor of Gerontology. She also holds the distinction of Credentialed Professional Gerontologist (CPG). Dr. Brown currently teaches Social Gerontology, Statistics for Social & Behavioral Sciences, Principles & Practices, and General Gerontology. She has taught gerontology courses at several universities, including Miami (OH), Muskingum University (OH), Eastern Michigan University, and the University of Central Missouri.

Dr. Brown recently received the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education's (AGHE) Rising Star Junior Faculty Award.

Dr. Brown currently serves as President on the Executive Board of Sigma Phi Omega's National Honor & Professional Society of Gerontology, after having served two terms as Treasurer. As a student she served as both a Chapter President (Alpha Zeta) and the Student Representative on the Executive Board. Dr. Brown is active within the Gerontological Society of America, where she holds the position of Chair on the Committee on Women's Issues. Previously, she held a position as Campus Ambassador and as the Representative from ESPO (Emerging Scholar & Professional Organization) with the Task Force on Women. She maintains a relationship with AGHE (Association for Gerontology in Higher Education), as Chair of the Membership Committee and is the Pre-Conference Workshop Coordinator for the Annual Conference. Not only does Dr. Brown serve at the national level but she is active in the regional Southern Gerontological Society, currently serving as the Secretary on the Executive Board of Directors, and the Publications Committee. She is also serving on the Editorial Board of Gerontology & Geriatrics Education, Gerontology & Geriatric Medicine, and the Journal of Gerontology & Geriatric Medicine.

Dr. Brown interned at AGHE (Association for Gerontology in Higher Education) in Washington, DC, and with the Legacy Leadership Institute (previously the Leadership Institute for Older Adults) with the United States Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS), Administration on Aging (AoA), South Alabama Regional Planning Commission-Area Agency on Aging (SARPC-AAA) & Alabama Department of Senior Services. (Year V-2006 & Year VI-2007). During this time, she was named the 2007 Southeastern Association of Area Agencies on Aging (SE4A) Scholarship Recipient.

In a previous life, Dr. Brown was a middle-school teacher, a coach, and worked in corporate America.
