Biography
Dr. Andrea Patterson is an assistant professor of speech in the department of Mass Communications. Her primary areas of research involve (1) communication education, (2) the basic communication course, (3) critical intercultural communication, (4) critical communication pedagogy, (5) cultural studies, (6) deliberative dialogue, (7) communication across the curriculum. Dr. Patterson's teaching interests include intercultural communication, the basic communication course, and interpersonal communication. She is a member of the National Communication Association and the Southern States Communication Association. Dr. Patterson served on the editorial board for The Basic Communication Course Annual #25 (2013) and on the nominating committee for the basic communication course division of the National Communication Association (2013). She has authored two book chapters, co-edited two customized communication textbooks, a cultural reader, presented at more than 15 scholarly conferences, and an international symposium in Brazil.
