Letter from Chancellor Robinson: Stay motivated

Dear Students,

The end of an academic year can bring forth a mixture of emotions. You may feel excited about completing another successful semester; anxiety about completing assignments on time; excitement about summer plans; or apprehension about the future. Staying motivated can feel challenging with just a few weeks left in the semester.

I encourage you to remind yourself why you are here. When you became a student at Winston-Salem State University, you envisioned your life after earning a degree. Whether your dreams include a fulfilling career, graduate study or starting a business, you knew that getting an education would help you achieve your goals. Remember what motivates you and imagine how proud you will be when you are handed your diploma.

Remember also that you are not alone. As a member of the Ram Family, you have a wonderful support system of not only your family and friends, but also your professors, and university staff. We are all here to help you get through this busy time and onto the “next step” in life—whether it is summer school classes, an internship, a job or post-graduation life. We believe in you and in your ability to make your dreams become reality.

I encourage anyone who is feeling overwhelmed to reach out to a friend, a classmate, a professor or a staff member should you need support or if you see someone struggling. The Student Wellness Center is also a great resource; you can call 336-750-3270 to make an appointment or drop by between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you need support urgently after hours, please call University Police at 336-750-2911 or Cardinal Innovations Crisis Response Team at 1-888-581-9988.

Summer will be here before you know it. Until then, keep pushing yourself and stay motivated.

Sincerely,

Elwood L. Robinson, Ph.D.
