Statement from WSSU Police: Homecoming 2019 Safety
Dear WSSU Campus Community,
We are all looking forward to the Winston-Salem State University Forever Red 2019 Homecoming festivities. During the week of Oct. 27-Nov. 3, the WSSU Ramily will come together for musical performances, alumni gatherings, parades, tailgating and the football game against Shaw University.
Chancellor Elwood L. Robinson and WSSU Police and Public Safety want to ensure that Homecoming is a safe experience for everyone. Here are some things to consider during your time at Homecoming events.
Use the online campus map to plan your routes and parking ahead of time: Click on “Layers and Features” on the bottom left of the screen to find information about parking and Emergency Call Boxes.
Follow the new clear bag policy. The football game in Bowman Gray Stadium, all student events, and all student parties will require attendees to follow the clear bag policy. Visit this page to see what items are allowed and what items are prohibited.
Give yourself extra time to get from WSSU to downtown Winston-Salem due to Business 40 construction. Business 40 is closed from Main Street to Peters Creek Parkway. You can visit the Business 40 website for information, alternate routes and updates.
Be safe when walking: There will be more motor traffic than usual. Be extra alert when crossing streets, especially Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Please use pedestrian crosswalks at all times.
Play it safe when driving: Please obey all speed limits and traffic directives. Obey barrier restrictions and park only in authorized parking areas. Safety officers and staff will be available to direct you to parking.
Pay attention to your surroundings: Be alert and attentive throughout all activities. If you see suspicious activities or unattended packages, please call WSSU Police at 336-750-2911.
Download the LiveSafe app: WSSU students can download the LiveSafe app, which allows them to report tips quickly, discretely and anonymously. The app includes a safety map, Go Safe, and ways to access safety resources and information.
Call for help if you need it: WSSU Campus Police will be present at all large events. We are here for you, so please reach out to us if you need us.
