Class 2023 Where Are They Headed? Ananye Fontaine

Winston-Salem State University celebrates the accomplishments of the Class of Fall 2023 as they “Depart to Serve” the larger community using the knowledge and skills they developed in their time at the university.

Chancellor Anthony Graham congratulated the Class of Fall 2023 by saying “You’ve focused on what was important in terms of your academics, but you’ve also taken the time to grow professionally and personally. You are well positioned to go out into the world and become a transformative servant leader.”

Hometown: Jersey City, NJ

Major: Teaching with a concentration in middle grades English and social studies

 

Ananye Fontaine

While at WSSU, Ananye Fontaine was involved in the National Council of Negro Women, first as a mentee then as a mentor. She was a resident advisor for two academic school years; and was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma Honors Society.

What is your next step?
My next step will still be in the classroom; however, the roles will be reversed. I will be teaching 8th grade English Language Arts (ELA) in Winston-Salem, NC.

How has WSSU helped to develop you as a person?
WSSU has developed me into the person I am today from the great experiences it granted me. These experiences have allowed me to grow in many areas in life. I am truly grateful for the impact WSSU has had on my development as an individual.

How has WSSU prepared you to pursue your ultimate goals?
WSSU has prepared me to pursue my ultimate goals by preparing me for my dream career. Within my major, I was able to gain field experience that allowed me to prepare for my dream career.

What will you miss most about WSSU?
What I will miss the most about WSSU is the atmosphere, culture and my “Family.” No one and nothing can compare.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about attending WSSU?
Just do it!
