Homecoming Safety Message
Greetings Ram Family,
Chancellor Bonita Brown and Winston-Salem State University invite you to WSSU's Forever Red Homecoming 2024.
This is the moment to celebrate our pride, traditions and everything that makes being a Ram special. While we want you to enjoy the festivities, it’s important to stay aware and safe.
WSSU Police and Public Safety, along with local law enforcement, fire departments and EMS, are working to make this homecoming the safest yet. You’ll notice an increased presence of security and officers throughout the weekend.
Homecoming Safety Tips 2024:
- Be prepared for a cashless experience. WSSU is now a cashless campus for things like tickets and parking. This will enhance your safety. Be sure to bring your debit and/or credit cards with you.
- Stay sharp. Don’t let the excitement make you lose focus.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Know who’s around you and where you are, just in case. If anything seems off, report it to campus police immediately.
- Watch your drink. Don’t leave your drink unattended, and if you do, toss it and get a new one.
- Avoid ticket scalpers. Get your tickets from approved vendors or the WSSU Ticket Office to avoid getting scammed.
- Lock up your stuff. Secure your valuables and lock your doors – both at your residence hall and your car.
- Keep your RAM card to yourself. Don’t lend it out to anyone to access buildings.
- Make a plan. You can check out the full Homecoming Schedule here.
- Stick with your friends. Go out in a group, decide on meet-up spots, and check in with each other throughout the night.
- Don’t isolate yourself. Avoid being alone with anyone you don’t know or trust.
- Charge up. Make sure your phone is fully charged.
- Avoid taking rides from strangers. Stick to trusted rideshare services.
- Don’t drink and drive. NC State law prohibits drinking and driving, so call a friend or use a rideshare service.
- Report suspicious activity. Save the WSSU Campus Police number (336-750-2911) in your phone contacts and use it if you see something concerning.
- Download the Rave Guardian app. This app allows you to have two-way texting with Campus Police and enables you to send anonymous tips about dangerous situations.
Safety is everyone’s priority. Let’s have fun but remember – safety comes first.
