Description:

This fellowship is a collaboration between the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) and the Center of Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation (CESI). It offers hands-on experiences in projects that focus on community engagement, entrepreneurship, social innovation, and sustainability. Fellows will work with community organizations to improve the Winston-Salem and WSSU communities.

This fellowship pays a monthly stipend of $500.

Program Highlights:

  • Interdisciplinary Focus: Combines community engagement, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.
  • Mentorship: Guided by the program coordinator and the OUR director.
  • Skill Development: Includes professional development workshops and training.
  • Project-Based: Fellows will complete meaningful projects that benefit local communities.

Fellow Expectations:

  • Duration: 1 semester
  • Weekly Commitment: 10 hours (3 hours of “course time” + 7 hours of research)
  • Meetings: Weekly meetings with the program coordinator (1-3 hours)
  • Mid-Point Assessment: Progress evaluation and potential enrollment in entrepreneurial courses.
  • Final Deliverables:
    • Completed project due by May 15th, 2024
    • Business or social innovation plan
    • Final paper or creative work
    • Presentation at WSSU Scholarship Day and a professional conference

Compensation:

  • Monthly stipend of $500
