Parent Involvement for Excellence (PIE)
The Winston-Salem State University MSEN Program provides educational opportunities to area elementary, middle and high school students, offering many underserved students advanced educational opportunities that may not otherwise be available. Students meet monthly throughout the academic school year to study math and science concepts, working towards competing in an annual MSEN competition which includes students from MSEN programs across the state.
Parental commitment is a vital component to the success of students involved in the WSSU NC-MSEN Pre-College Program. The Parent Involvement for Excellence (PIE) Club meets periodically at WSSU during Saturday Academy. Attendance at these meetings affords parents opportunities to stay abreast of upcoming program events and participate in student activities. The PIE Club plays a vital role in raising funds to support Pre-College Program activities.
While all MSEN programs are state funded, budget cuts have significantly impacted the financial support the program receives. Parent Involved for Excellence (PIE) is a parental support group whose primary objective is to ensure the Winston-Salem State University MSEN program and students have all the tools necessary for a successful academic year. PIE is a member of the North Carolina PTA organization and is fully governed by it rules and regulations.
PIE provides financial support for many of the WSSU MSEN endeavors, some of which include:
- Annual MSEN Competition (transportation, food, lodging)
- Annual MSEN Awards Banquet
- Scholarships for graduating seniors
- Transportation to College Recruitment Events
- Transportation to tour various college campuses
- SAT/ACT Prep Programs
- WSSU/MSEN Robotics Camp
All donations, whether monetary or via the provision of goods/services, are instrumental in allowing PIE to grant these and other outstanding opportunities to our scholars. Your support is greatly appreciated, Tax ID # 45-0785523.
