The Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation is a charity dedicated to the support of women in nine southeastern states.
In accordance with guidelines prescribed by the founder, the grantee institutions award scholarships on the basis of need to Christian women who reside in one of the specified southern states. (AL, FL GA, LA, MS. NC, SC, TN and VA)

Deadline: March 1, 2026, for application, transcript, and FAFSA. Applicants will be notified of awards by early May 2026.
Applicants must be a North Carolina resident enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours in a degree granting criminal justice program at one of the institutions of The University of North Carolina or the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities. Applicants must express an interest in pursuing a career in law enforcement and must be recommended by their local sheriff. Selection of recipients is based on the following priorities:
- Priority 1 – a child or step-child of a North Carolina Sheriff or Deputy Sheriff
- Priority 2 – a child or step-child of any North Carolina law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty
- Priority 3 – a child or step-child of a North Carolina Sheriff or Deputy Sheriff who is deceased or retired (regular or disability)
- Priority 4 – an academically eligible North Carolina criminal justice student with demonstrated financial need (applicants must file a Free Application for Federal Student North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association Criminal Justice Scholarship Application
The Reynolda Rotary Clarence "Big House" Gaines Memorial Scholarship was established in special recognition of Reynolda Rotarian Clarence "Big House" Gaines to help students from Cook Elementary School attend Winston-Salem State University. Students who attended Cook Elementary School during the 2003-2004 school year and/or later and who meet the qualifications may be considered for this scholarship.
Gaines was a pillar of the Winston-Salem Community, serving in many professional and civic organizations, including the Reynolda Rotary Club where he was a charter member.
These awards provide mentoring and financial assistance to alum of Cook Elementary School for educational-related expenses to attend Forsyth Tech or WSSU.
Two Awards Available
- up to $2,000 per year of study up to two years at Forsyth Tech Comm College
- up to $5000 per year of study up to four years at Winston-Salem State University
Eligibility
- Must have attended Cook Elementary School for at least years
- Must have a high school diploma (or equivalent)
- Must be current student of or planning to attend WSSU or Forsyth Tech
- Must have the GPA minimum required for admission into WSSU or Forsyth Tech

The Clarence "Big House" Gaines Reynolda Rotary College Assistance Program
Since 1987, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) has provided scholarships to qualified students attending one of our nation's public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). TMCF scholarships are awarded annually to students meeting the TMCF eligibility criteria. - Incoming Freshman ONLY
- Have a minimum 800 SAT score or Composite ACT score of at least 19
- Maintain a GPA of 3.00

The Baltimore Alumni Chapter of Winston Salem State University (WSSU) will start accepting applications for 2026-2027 scholarships on May 1, 2026. Baltimore Chapter was established to promote and support individuals in their pursuit of higher education at Winston Salem State University. Every year, since the founding of the organization, scholarships have been awarded to outstanding students with the goal of having students return to support the many efforts of the Baltimore Chapter.

The scholarships will be awarded to qualified individuals in the amount of $1,000.00 ($500.00 per semester) based on academic criteria and financial need over a four-year period.
Requirements
- First time degree seeking undergraduate
- Full time enrollment (12+ hours) at Winston-Salem State University
- Minimum 2.7 GPA
- Demonstrate a financial need (submit financial aid notification award letter)
- An official transcript
