Biography
Hye Young Kim was born in 1982 in the city of Gongju in South Korea. She received her BFA at Korea University in 2007, and her MFA in painting at Washington University in St. Louis in 2009. She completed another MFA in Art and Technology at University of Florida in 2013.
Currently she is teaching at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina. As a video performance/installation artist, she has investigated human existence with physical and psychological traces by integrating traditional art-making techniques with experimental video and interactivity. As her recent exhibitions, her work is presented at “Vector 2014”, which is a video game + art convergence festival in Toronto, Canada and at “Single Channel Work” at the 10th Berlin International Director’s lounge in Berlin, Germany. In the United States, Kim’s work has been exhibited in New York City, St. Louis, Seattle, and in Toledo, Ohio, Gainesville, Florida and Davis, California. Internationally, her work has been exhibited in Toronto, Canada, Berlin, Germany and in Seoul, South Korea. Her paintings are permanently collected and displayed in Washington University (St. Louis); in the University City Public Library (St. Louis); and at the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (Daejeon, South Korea). Kim has held residencies at University of Washington and at the Kulturprojekte in Berlin. In 2004, she participated in the Geumgang Nature Art Biennale, South Korea. She has lectured and conducted art workshops to the public in St. Louis and Seattle.
