WSSU receives top 10 military-friendly award

Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) has been recognized as a Top 10 Gold Level Military Friendly School by Victory Media for 2017.

WSSU is one of only five universities in North Carolina to receive the ranking and the only Triad university. The designation places WSSU in the “best of the best” category among small public colleges and universities (less than 10,000 students).

“Our military students are of all ages and come from all walks of life,” said Joel Lee, assistant vice chancellor of Enrollment Services. “Through our Military Student Veterans Organization, Military Appreciation Day, ROTC, Yellow Ribbon Program participation, etc., WSSU supports this population and wants to see them succeed. They take care of our country, and it’s our duty to take care of them.”

The designation process includes extensive research and a data-driven survey of leading companies and colleges nationwide. WSSU scored high in all six categories of the survey, including a perfect 100 percent for culture and commitment.

The award follows WSSU’s designation in November as a Military Friendly School for the second consecutive year.

WSSU will be featured in the December issue of G.I. Jobs magazine. You can view the full list of schools at militaryfriendly.com.

Nearly 200 student veterans and active-duty military attend WSSU.
