Get ahead this summer with WSSU

Summer Session classes at WSSU start on May 16. 

Summer classes at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) are just a few weeks away. This is a great way to improve your GPA, move toward graduating early, or complete prerequisites more quickly. 

With classes starting in May, now is the time to prepare. Here’s what you need to know to get ahead this summer.

At WSSU this summer, you can complete courses in a little as five weeks. Also, because WSSU offers two sessions, you don’t have to spend your entire summer in class if you don’t want to.

WSSU offers two summer sessions:

  • May 16: Summer Session I classes begin
  • June 25: Summer Session II classes begin

Current/Returning Students

Summer is a great time to:

  • Improve your GPA
  • Graduate faster
  • Complete prerequisites

Academic advisement is available through your advisor. Contact University College and Lifelong Learning (UCaLL) if you are unsure of who your academic success counselor is. Continuing student early registration begins on Thursday, March 29, and continues through April 17. To avoid being purged for non-payment, it is strongly advised that you pay for classes upon registering.

Students who are interested in receiving financial aid must submit the Summer School Financial Aid Application Form. The application opens on March 29. Students must register and finalize their class schedules prior to submitting the application. The financial aid application deadline is April 28. 

Visiting Students

Students who are at other universities are typically able to classes this summer at WSSU. To get started, complete the WSSU application for admission. Be sure to check the “Summer School Only” box on the application. 

Complete your application as early as possible, especially if you wish to enroll during the early registration period from April 10-17. The latest application deadlines are:

  • Summer Session I: May 11
  • Summer Session II: June 20

 Early registration for visiting students begins on Tuesday, April 10.

High School Students

During summer sessions, WSSU accepts high school juniors and seniors who are above average in academic achievement and have the formal endorsement of and permission from their high school principals. Students also must complete the WSSU application for admission. Be sure to check the “Summer School Only” box.
