WSSU awards surprise scholarships to 14 high school seniors

Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) alumni visited high schools across North Carolina, surprising seniors with the news that they have received one of the university’s most prestigious scholarships.



The visits included stops at high schools in cities and towns across North Carolina, including Greensboro, Charlotte, Teachey in Dublin County and Dobson. The presentations started on Feb. 26 and continued through March 2.



The 14 seniors, who have applied and been accepted to WSSU for fall, are recipients of the Chancellor Scholarship, a merit-based award that pays for all tuition and fees not covered by state or federal grant sources or other scholarships. The scholarship also includes a book stipend of up to $650 per term.

Among those surprising students is WSSU Chancellor Elwood L. Robinson, who made a presentation at Charlotte’s Phillip O. Berry Academy on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
