Winston-Salem State University employees are once again being asked to give back through the annual State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC).

WSSU’s 2018 SECC campaign, which runs Oct. 31-Dec. 7, supports more than 900 charities and organizations that directly impact the community, the region and the world. SECC is the official giving campaign for state employees.

Last year, WSSU’s campaign surpassed its monetary and participation goals with employees donating  $20,742 and 18 percent of full-time employees participating.

This year, WSSU’s SECC goal is $20,000 and to increase the overall percentage of employees who participate.

In the first week, the campaign is already halfway to its monetary goal, with $9,600 in pledges, said Leslie Winbush, WSSU Staff Senate president and chair of the campaign.

“We are encouraged by the number of pledges so far,” Winbush said. “This year’s campaign is a collaborative effort, with our steering committee and honorary chairs reaching campuswide to support that organizations that support our community. ”

The honorary chair for WSSU's campaign this year is Dr. Anthony Graham, provost and chief academic officer. Honorary co-chairs are Dr. Darryl Scriven, dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, Business and Education, and Dr. Peggy Valentine, dean of the School of Health Sciences.

Employees who complete their pledge forms will be entered in drawings for some big weekly prizes, Winbush said.
