SECC update: WSSU raises nearly $28,000 for charities
Winston-Salem State University’s 2018 State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC) raised nearly $28,000 for charities.
The campaign, which ran Oct. 31-Dec. 7, well exceeded the goal of $20,000. Giving also increased 32 percent over 2017’s total. Donations were received from 177 WSSU faculty and staff.
WSSU’s Staff Senate President Leslie Winbush, who served as SECC committee chair, said collaboration was key to the campaign’s success.
“Our steering committee and honorary chair and co-chairs went the extra mile to reach across the campus to get the word out about the campaign,” Winbush said. “There also was a true spirit of giving here on campus, with Rams coming together to help our community.”
The honorary chair for WSSU's campaign was Dr. Anthony Graham, provost and chief academic officer. Honorary co-chairs were: Dr. Darryl Scriven, dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, Business and Education, and Dr. Peggy Valentine, dean of the School of Health Sciences. The steering committee members were: Dr. LaTanya Afolayan, Camille Kluttz-Leach, Andrea Jenkins and Quentin Gunter.
Weekly drawings were held during the campaign with the grand prize being awarded to Dr. Steven Viscido. He was the recipient of a 42-inch 4K Smart TV and Amazon Firestick.
SECC allows state employees to donate to more than 900 charities, including the WSSU Foundation. Since 1985, more than $103 million has been donated to local, national and global charities through SECC. For more information on SECC, please visit ncsecc.org.
