Godette named interim director of alumni engagement

Mae Godette will serve as the interim director of alumni engagement at Winston-Salem State University, effective July 12, 2019.

For more than 30 years, Godette has served her alma mater as an advocate, fundraiser, and volunteer in several capacities, most notably as Ms. Alumni, 2017-2018, when she raised $28,000 in scholarship resources. As an inaugural member of the WSSU Heritage Society, the university’s deferred giving society, she has been a part of a “team” effort to recruit new members into the Heritage Society, resulting in more than $2 million in deferred gifts since 2003.

Godette is a life member of the WSSU National Alumni Association and the Brown Alumni Chapter. In 2015 and 2016, Ms. Godette raised $55,000 as part of her induction into the Clarence E. “Big House” Gaines Athletic Hall of Fame.

She also served as chair of the “She’s Got it Covered – A Classy Hat Affair” fundraiser. She has been a member of the HORN$ Athletics Booster Club since its inception and is also a member of the WSSU Board of Visitors. Ms. Godette raises funds for WSSU Athletics through HOOPS, the initiative for WSSU’s women and men’s basketball programs. In the past, Ms. Godette has served on the WSSU Athletic Advisory and NCAA DI Steering committees.

Godette supports WSSU’s incoming students through her service as a volunteer during Rams at Home, an orientation program for incoming students and their parents, and Ramdition, the university’s week-long freshman experience program.

In 2016, Godette retired as a supervisor with the North Carolina Department of Human Services, where she managed forensic investigators. She previously worked as an investigative social worker for the Guilford County Government.

She received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Winston-Salem State University in 1984, and a master’s degree in adult education from North Carolina A&T State University.

A national search for the director of alumni engagement will begin immediately.

Godette’s office will be located in the S.G. Atkins House.
