Letter from Chancellor Robinson – Dr. Peggy Valentine
Dear Ram Family,
I am pleased to announce that Peggy Valentine, Dean of the School of Health Sciences, has been appointed interim chancellor of Fayetteville State University. Her appointment will be effective Aug. 7, 2019, and will continue through July 31, 2020.
This is a tremendous opportunity for both Dr. Valentine and Fayetteville State. Dr. Valentine’s incredible work to make our School of Health Sciences a powerhouse in the State of North Carolina has not gone unnoticed. Under her leadership, the SOHS has grown to begin offering the university’s first doctoral degrees—the doctor of physical therapy and the doctor of nursing practice. The School has expanded, now offering programs in clinical laboratory science, exercise physiology, healthcare management, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation counseling, social work, and therapeutic recreation.
The strength of these programs is evidenced by high licensure exam pass rates and the demand for each seat in the program. In an effort to increase diversity in the health professions, Dr. Valentine has also overseen the development of early assurance agreements that guarantee admission into high-demand graduate programs for WSSU undergraduates who meet certain requirements. Further, under her watch the School has expanded its work toward eliminating health disparities among the residents of East Winston. FSU will benefit from her exceptional leadership and incredible vision. I look forward to seeing her impact on our sister institution.
An announcement on who will serve as the interim dean of the School of Health Sciences will be forthcoming from the Office of the Provost. I am confident that the exceptional SOHS faculty and staff will continue Dr. Valentine’s great work in her absence. Please join me in offering her congratulations.
Sincerely,
Elwood L. Robinson, Ph.D.
