Applications open for Spatial Justice Fellows grant program

The Spatial Justice Studio at the Center for Design Innovation (CDI) is seeking applications for its Spatial Justice Fellows grant program.

Through the program, up to four fellows will be selected and receive a stipend of up to a $2,500 to focus on developing meaningful solutions to spatial justice issues in Winston-Salem.

Faculty from any department at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) or the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), as well as local community members who have a background in data analysis, survey research, and have a special interest in better understanding spatial justice are encouraged to apply. Past recipients are also eligible to apply.

In 2018, the studio awarded $12,500 in grants to four projects.

The Spatial Justice Studio received start-up funding in 2018 from CDI, a multi-campus research center for the University of North Carolina System located in the Wake Forest Innovation Quarter. The studio aims to explore alternative possibilities for urban areas and ways to achieve more equitable urban futures through active research, engaged teaching practices and community-based participatory research.

Those interested in applying for the program can receive more information at the CDI Open House from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at CDI, 450 Design Ave., Winston-Salem.

Applications should be submitted by Sept. 30. For more information or to apply, please email Dr. Russell Smith, faculty lead for the Spatial Justice Studio.

Recipients will be announced after Oct. 15.
