Yolanda McLean named Associate Director of Financial Aid

Yolanda McLean says Winston-Salem State University feels like “home.” As the new Associate Director of Financial Aid at WSSU, she will lead the office's outreach efforts and serve as the point of contact for students in special populations like the band or athletic teams.

McLean has a passion for helping students. She says an experience working as an Upward Bound advisor at a high school led her to higher education. She has served in Financial Aid offices since 2004, helping students and parents understand the financial aid process.

While serving as the Assistant Director for Scholarships at UNC Greensboro, she managed over a thousand scholarship processes totaling approximately $7 million. In 2021, McLean began her tenure at WSSU as the Director of Business and Finance and Sports Administrator in the Department of Athletics.

In her new position, McLean says she hopes to be a change agent, helping connect students with resources that will help them succeed in college and after graduation. “I am most excited to develop new relationships and partnerships on campus that will increase matriculation, retention, and graduation of our students. Using innovation, sprinkled with a bit of patience, we are prepared to assist with ‘unleashing the genius’ that lives in each of our students, faculty, and staff,” McLean said.
