WSSU professor receives Professional Writing and Research Award from the North Carolina Counseling Association

Dr. Keisha G. Rogers, Associate Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling at Winston-Salem State University received the Professional Writing and Research Award at the North Carolina Counseling Association (NCCA) Annual Conference, held on February 10-11, 2023, in Durham, NC.

NCCA is a state branch of the American Counseling Association (ACA). Founded in 1952, ACA is the world's largest association exclusively representing professional counselors in various practice settings. Dr. Rogers was recognized for her contributions to the profession of counseling through significant writing and research.

Dr. Rogers has demonstrated excellence in her research by examining contemporary and emerging issues that matter in a multicultural arena. Her unwavering commitment to be a change agent by translating research to practice is evident in her work. Though in the early stages of her career, Rogers is regarded as a mentor and collaborator with both peers and students. With securing research funding exceeding $1.2 million, 15 publications, and 30 research presentations, it is evident that Rogers is well on her way to being a prolific scholar-practitioner.

Her nominator for this award Dr. Shon Smith stated, “Being on the cutting edge of the impact on under resourced individuals, especially African Americans. Dr. Rogers’ work relates specifically to her commitment to research that uncovers the issues that impact the mental and emotional health of marginalized groups.”

WSSU chancellor presides over historic commencement ceremony

Winston-Salem State University celebrated its fall graduates during commencement Friday, Dec. 13. More than 500 students became alumni, ready to depart to serve, during the historic ceremony that was presided by the university’s first female chief administrator, Chancellor Bonita Brown.
