WSSU kicks off Scholarship Week “A Gallery of Genius” on April 1, 2024

On Monday, April 1 Winston-Salem State University kicks off Scholarship Week 2024: A Gallery of Genius. WSSU students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend biggest academic event of the year that shines a spotlight on how scholars from all disciplines Unleash their Genius.

Lead Scholarship Week organizer and Director of The Office of Undergraduate Research, Dr. Tangela Towns said “many people think of Scholarship Week as something that solely focuses on STEM and the social sciences. We want this week to illuminate the diverse ways our students and faculty are engaged in scholarly research and activities.”

The traditional face-to-face poster session will be held on Tuesday, April 2 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in DJR Gymnasium. The Gallery of Genius continues throughout the week and will include departmental showcases, classroom presentations, panel discussions, and student pop-up displays.

“The most exciting aspect of the Gallery of Genius is that we will get to see scholarly works that highlight the innovation on our campus. Research is more than what we see on a poster. Research is action. The research being conducted at WSSU can and will improve the world we live in,” Towns said.

Scholarship Week will feature research from areas including arts and humanities, social sciences, business, education, health sciences, physical and natural sciences and behavioral studies and more.

The Department of Arts + Visual Students will host a reception and art exhibition at the Delta Arts Center on Friday, April 5 from 6-8 p.m. This will give arts students an opportunity to converse with attendees about their creative works. This event is free and open to the public.

Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend as many events as possible to learn more about the remarkable work WSSU students are doing and help them celebrate their genius.
