WSSU’s Integrated Marketing team wins two Telly Awards

Winston-Salem State University’s Office of Integrated Marketing Communications has won two Telly Awards for a recruitment video in the record breaking 45th Annual Telly Awards.

The 2023 recruitment video won a silver Telly in the People’s Choice Branded Content category and a bronze Telly in the Branded Content – Educational Institution category. The videos were produced by Antonio Davis, digital communications strategy manager and multimedia producer, and Garrett Garms, the university photographer.

The People’s Telly is the only category that goes to the Telly’s public voting platform after it is scored high enough by the judges.

The Telly Awards honors excellence in video and television across all screens and is judged by leaders from video platforms, television, streaming networks and production companies. WSSU is among this year’s winners that include Adobe, Calvin Klein, ESPN, LinkedIn, MTV Entertainment Studios, NASA, the LA Clippers (NBA), PlayStation Studios and more.

“This recognition underscores the exceptional talent of our IMC team and their commitment to excellence, producing award-winning work that represents Winston-Salem State University,” said Haley Gingles, chief marketing and communications officer for WSSU. “Their consistent dedication, diligence and collaborative spirit are pivotal to our department’s success.”

“The caliber of the work this season truly has reflected the theme of going ‘beyond the frame.’ Our industry is experimenting with new technologies like never before, crafting truly compelling stories to draw attention to some of the world’s most pressing issues,” said Telly Awards Managing Director Amanda Needham. “The Telly Awards is uniquely positioned to meet the industry where it’s actually making work, be that on television or TikTok.”

This was a record-breaking year for the Telly Awards with nearly 13,000 entries from across the globe and top video and television content producers. Winners were chosen by The Telly Awards Judging Council, which includes Nathalie Van Sasse Van Ysselt, vice president of Design and Creative Services, MSG Sphere Studios; Barry Christie, Global Creative Lead, Meta Creative Shop; Farihah Zaman, director and member of Brown Girl Doc Mafia; Aiden Darné, vice president of Global Studio Lead Shutterstock; and Malinda Wink, executive director of Minderoo Pictures.

WSSU’s Office of IMC has won two Telly Awards in previous years. The role of IMC is to influence the public’s awareness and understanding of the university, collaborating with campus partners to enhance institutional branding, recruitment initiatives, and fundraising endeavors.
