Information Technology is an evolving “support science” that requires ever changing ideas, concepts, innovations, inventive strategies all aimed at allowing you the user to access to information more efficiently, more quickly, and in more volume than ever before. Managing this access and keeping it secure is an ever-present and demanding but required challenge. Students, faculty/staff, guests, alumni, and dignitaries all require access to wide and varied levels of information provided to them in a high performance, easy to access, yet secure fashion. With this is mind, WSSU IT department has embarked on a bold operational move aimed at being able to better serve the campus community in all of these ways. The development of the Network, Communications & Infrastructure (NCI) is key to this improved service.
The NCI department seeks to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of students, faculty and staff by providing a highly reliable, accessible, dependable, and secure campus data networking, and telecommunications infrastructure. The NCI department seeks to achieve this mission by providing highly integrated “always on, anytime access” to systems, infrastructure, Internet connectivity, and mission critical applications that support the strategic mission and components of academic, personal, and professional success at Winston-Salem State University.
The units and their related services that make up NCI include:
The Systems and Server Administration unit support server administration and monitoring, client server access, and data backups.
The Telecommunications Services unit supports voice communications (university and cellular),as well as telephone moves, adds and changes.
The Networking and Security Services unit supports wired and wireless communications , Cable TV, network monitoring, firewalls, and surveillance hardware.
The Access Services unit manages RAMCard access and related resources.
