Admissions and Criteria Process
The Winston-Salem State University Department of Occupational Therapy has a 3-step preparation and application process.
Application Submission Deadline - January 15th
WSSU OTCAS Application Process Opens - September 1st
1: Prior to completing the WSSU OTCAS application an applicant must complete various tasks. Please
review the admissions criteria prior to applying.
WSSU OT will accept a minimum of 25 hours to fulfill the shadowing requirement hours. The 25 hours can be fulfilled with a licensed OT or OTA or by applying the steps in the linked Shadow Proposal Documentation. The completed form should be printed and uploaded into the OTCAS application portal.
2: OTCAS is the Centralized Application Service for Occupational Therapy. All parts of the application and documents must be completed and verified by OTCAS prior in order to be reviewed by the OT Department Admissions Committee.

- Verification may take several weeks, therefore early application submission is encouraged at least 4 weeks prior to the deadline.
- Each applicant must answer additional WSSU questions within OTCAS. All applicants are required to answer the WSSU essay and Video Prompt within OTCAS.
- Official transcripts MUST be sent to OTCAS at the address below. OTCAS does NOT forward your transcripts to the University. If you are accepted, you will need to forward copies of all official transcripts to the Occupational Therapy department.
- Recommendation forms should be sent electronically through OTCAS.

3: The $50.00 WSSU application fee must be paid prior to the application deadline. Those who select WSSU
in OTCAS will be sent an email with instructions on how to pay the $50 WSSU application fee.
