Stand-Out Nominations
We receive so many incredible nominations for Employee of the Month that it is often difficult to choose only one person to receive the honor. In order to celebrate more of our high-performing employees we will publish a selection of comments from the nominations we receive.
Chiquita works so hard to keep Hall-Patterson clean. She is always on time, and there is nothing that we have asked of her, that she was not willing to do. She has a positive attitude and takes pride in her work. If she does not have something we need, she will go to any lengths to get it for us and put it to work. There is no task too big or too small. We have enjoyed a clean building and clean restrooms ever since she has been assigned here! Thank you Chiquita.
Ms. Jordan is a tremendous value to the University and its workforce by taking care of all the travel arrangements throughout the university for faculty and staff members. She goes above and beyond to be sure all travelers are set in their arrangements with hotels and flights. I never see her complain or get upset with anyone. She goes out of her way to make you feel like things were taken care of even if someone else might have forgotten to do something on their end. She makes sure the traveler does not have any worries and if they do, she is sure to take care of it no matter the day or time. She is helpful in the department with everyone and goes out of her way to explain anything you need help with. If she does not know how to help you, she will be sure to find the right source to do so. She is the backbone to the travel department and is always suggesting ways to assist with better changes and ways to save the university money on travel.
Tiffany is the epitome of what it means to Enter to Learn and Depart to Serve. As a recent two time graduate of Winston-Salem State University, Tiffany has devoted her time and education to WSSU. As a Business Manager, she has made her mark on the University's Legal Office going above and beyond the call of service.
Tiffany is responsible for handling the front line of Legal Affairs and Tiffany does that with grace. She ensures that contracts are processed on time, that our policies are easily assessable on the website, she handles all of our public records requests and greets everyone with a warm and loving smile.
She's a processed and driven person, which helps the Attorneys stay organized, focused and keeps the University out of trouble. I can always depend on Tiffany and she always goes above and beyond her call of duty.

I am one of the building coordinators for the F L Atkins Building. While serving in this capacity, and when there are great emergencies that need to be defined, he is my go to person. He always answers his phone and assists. He has even answered his phone while out sick or on vacation. He connects with who I need "right now" and then I can also do the work requests simultaneously. He does a great follow up. We have had a lot of issues in F L Atkins for a long time and these had his assistance.
Darrell is a Banner Developer for the "Student" module of Banner. He has worked for the University in the IT department for more than 10 years. He provide ERP/Banner technical support primarily for Admissions and Registrar. Not only does he provide exceptional technical support and programming, but he often provides guidance and best practice information on numerous functional aspects of ERP/Banner processes. He is very-much in tune to the functional and technical needs and concerns of the Office of the Registrar and Admissions. Often goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that Admissions and the Office of the Registrar can continue to provide services that our students expect and deserve. Darrell has also been very vital to the implementation of the Banner 9 upgrade project. He often takes the initiative to research issues, even when they are not a part of his responsibilities, and provides information to the project team to ensure that the Banner 9 transition is as seamless as possible for the entire University.
I would like to nominate Ms. Florence Adams for the Staff Senate Employee of the Month. Ms. Adams has exhibited a high-level of service in her capacity as Business Manager at the University Wellness Center. She continues to support staff members, clinicians and interns with business functions servicing the wellness needs of students. This support includes (but is not limited to) University and organizational compliance activities, training, systems support, purchasing, and various other things she does that go unmentioned but not unnoticed. Ms. Adams continues to support student groups such as POSSE and other organizations in support of the Wellness Centers' and University's mission and vision. It is my wish that she is honored and recognized for her diligent work.
Trey has proven to be an integral part of Athletics. He continues to assist in all areas of the department to ensure that our fans and student-athletes receive the best experience that is possible. Godette, is an alum and has truly shown what it means to "Depart to Serve". Godette has introduced new models to the department, by ensuring that we launched a mobile application. He has also been extremely successful in bridging the gap with our student population.
Karen has served as the prime example of customer service for WSSU. She consistently goes beyond what is asked and required, such that she anticipates the needs of the office and of the campus. She has served as a staple for institutional memory and a solid resource of information not found in books. She often volunteers for special projects, like SECC Campaign, and extends herself to other campus departments to assist them. She has kept a close eye on our office budget and identified areas where we could spend more wisely and strategically. I truly appreciate her dedication and selflessness as she is a constant advocate for all things that make WSSU a very special place to work.
Ms Payne works tirelessly to keep the College together. In the absence of a College admin assistant, Ms Payne functions as an executive assistant, budget manager, CASBE liaison, and University fundraiser. She serves on a number of committees and often stays late working until the job gets done. Despite falling twice last Friday at work, she still came in early Monday morning tired, but with a smile on her face. She is very worthy of the award and I appreciate her being considered.
