Net Price Calculator

This calculator is intended to provide estimated net price information (defined as estimated cost of attendance including tuition fees, books and supplies, room and board (meals), and other related expenses- minus estimated grant and scholarship aid) to current and prospective students and their families based on what similar students paid in a previous year.

This is not an application for financial aid at WSSU. The estimate provided using this calculator does not represent a final determination, or actual award, of financial assistance, or a final net price to attend WSSU.

The calculations are an estimate based on cost of attendance and information you provide. Cost of attendance and financial aid availability change year to year. These estimates are not binding on the Secretary of Education, WSSU, or the State of North Carolina. Actual financial aid awards may vary depending upon changes in the law, WSSU policy changes, official academic and standardized testing information, and verified family information.

Institutional aid in the form of scholarships and grants are not guaranteed. Institutional aid is offered to selected, qualified individuals.

Prospective First-Time Freshmen should always select on-campus housing in order to get the most accurate estimates.

Prospective Graduate Students may use the Net Price Calculator. However, your estimate may include a Pell Grant award. You are not eligible for the Pell Grant; graduate students may receive up to $20,500 in student loans per year.

Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to be eligible for, and receive, an actual financial aid award that includes Federal grant, loan, work-study, and institutional assistance. Satisfactory Academic Progress

The purpose of the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy is to encourage the completion of degree/certificate programs within a reasonable timeframe and to comply with federal and state requirements. Financial aid recipients attending Winston-Salem State University must maintain satisfactory academic progress as a condition for receiving financial aid.

Financial aid recipients attending Winston-Salem State University must maintain satisfactory academic progress as a condition for receiving financial aid.

Financial aid recipients who do not meet these conditions will lose their financial aid eligibility. Also, a student’s entire academic history (including transfer hours) is considered for purposes of this policy regardless of whether or not the student received financial aid at the time the credit hours were completed.

All forms and documentation must be typewritten and submitted together by the appropriate deadline date.

In accordance with federal law, Winston-Salem State University has an academic progress policy that is used to determine eligibility for and continued receipt of federal funds. All students who wish to qualify for financial aid while enrolled at WSSU will be assessed on three standards: qualitative (grade point average), quantitative (pace) and timeframe. These standards are applied uniformly to all WSSU financial aid applicants. All hours (including transfer hours) are included in the Satisfactory Academic Progress Financial Aid calculation.

This calculator provides you with your term completion rate and GPA, but this is intended for your information only. This is NOT a measurement of your SAP status. Your results will appear in the “Your Summary” box at the bottom of the calculator, but your official SAP status will be determined by The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid after each semester and communicated to you.

Verification

Verification can be a part of the financial aid process. Winston-Salem State University has partnered with Inceptia to expedite the federal verification process.

Important Changes to the Verification Process

Because students sometimes make errors when completing the FAFSA, there is a process for verifying applications and making corrections. The U.S. Department of Education Central Processing System (CPS) or WSSU select which applications are to be verified.

Federal funds cannot be disbursed to a student until the verification process has been completed. Also, WSSU will not release state or institutional funds until the verification process has been completed.

In order to provide the highest quality of service to our students, WSSU has established a partnership with Inceptia to expedite the federal verification process.

Please watch for e-mails from verification@SSCwp.org. It is important that you respond to the requests as quickly as possible.

If you are selected for verification, CFI will contact you by email through CFI School Services (CFISS). Emails will be sent to the email address you provided on your FAFSA.

You may already be familiar with CFI because of its involvement in educational services as College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC.org), which helps students and families plan, apply and pay for college/university expenses. For more than 55 years, CFI also has worked closely with North Carolina colleges and universities to provide information and resources for student financial aid. You can be assured that CFI will protect your privacy and your data. CFI will also provide you with quality customer service.

You will be able to track what is needed and can possibly complete most of the verification work on the CFISS website at School Servicing Center. Watch for emails from CFISS and check your account often at School Servicing Center until you are notified that your verification has been finalized. Your prompt response to all requests will accelerate the review of your request for financial aid.

Winston-Salem State University may be requesting other documents from you. If this occurs, please promptly submit those documents directly to the Financial Aid Office.

How do I know if I have been selection for verification?
If you are selected for verification, the notice will be included in your Student Aid Report (SAR).

What are the consequences if I choose not to submit the requested verification documentation?

Participation in the verification process is not optional. If you do not submit the requested documentation, you will not be eligible to receive federal financial aid as a WSSU student and you will not be able to receive a PLUS Loan. You will need to make payment arrangements for all enrollment charges.

All requested information should be submitted as quickly as possible. This is encouraged so you will have all funding available to you prior to the start of the semester. Failure to complete the verification process will result in you having to make payment arrangements for enrollment charges.

Verification Gateway (VG) from Inceptia is an online portal to guide students and parents through verification.

If your FAFSA application is selected for verification, you will receive an email from FAS-VG@inceptia.org, or postcard from Inceptia, containing Winston-Salem State University’s unique website link to start the verification process.

We encourage you to begin the verification process within 7 days of receiving notification from Verification Gateway to ensure you receive your financial aid in time for payments. Failure to complete the verification process could result in the delay or denial of your financial aid.
