Alumni Return to Serve
Winston-Salem State University will host Alumni Return to Serve on Thursday, November 7, 2024. Please make plans to join us for this high impact educational opportunity! Alumni Return To Serve bring alumni and undergraduates together for professional growth. As a University strategic priority, the program effectively prepares students for life after graduation. Career Development Services is committed to empowering students and graduates to discover their passion, explore their career options, develop their personal career plan, and attain their goals as part of their lifelong educational philosophy. It’s our goal to provide them with the following abilities:
- The ability to gain insight into their own identities including their interests, skills, values, personalities, and goals
- The ability to identify and research potential choices in the job or graduate school decision-making process and then to promote and market themselves to chosen opportunities in a professional manner
- The ability to initiate, develop and maintain professional relationships in ways that foster mutually beneficial and continuing professional growth and development
- The ability to understand new cultures and organizations and to negotiate the transitions to them and within them
As alumni, you provide valuable insight on navigating the post–college world.
Registration is required ~ participants will not be allowed to register on the day of the event. All registered participants will receive a confirmation. The registration deadline is Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
Program Description/Overview

Driving Directions
To Winston-Salem State University main campus:

Once on Winston-Salem State University main campus:
- From main campus, head south on Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr (towards Bowman Gray Stadium)
- Continue past the Anderson Center entrance on your right (MLK/Reynolds Park Rd. Intersection)
- Make the second right once you go across the bridge on MLK (do not turn on Research Parkway)
- Turn left into the Field House parking lot FH
- Lot FH spaces will be to the left side of the parking area (if you pass the football stadium you have gone too far)
Parking Information
Designated parking has been provided for alumni participants in this program. You are subject to ticketing and towing at your expense if you do not follow the guidelines included regarding designated spaces. Transportation (shuttle) to the Thompson Center will start promptly at 7:15 a.m. and conclude at 8:45 a.m. for the Opening/Orientation Session. Transportation (shuttle) will resume at 1:30 p.m. and conclude at 2:30 p.m.
To find parking Lot FH please follow the Career Services Event parking signs. Parking will be available in Lot FH and university shuttles will be transporting alumni participants to the Thompson Center (campus) and back to the designated lot.
- Pick-up/shuttle to Diggs Gallery/Thompson Center Circle from Lot FH 7:15 a.m. – 8:45 a.m.
- Pick-up/shuttle from Diggs Gallery/Thompson Center Circle to Lot FH 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

We are excited to have you participate in this year’s event as a Visiting Professor! You will receive a Class Visitation Schedule during the registration/check-in. As Alumni, you provide valuable insight and you will have an opportunity to engage with freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors!
As a reminder, it is our goal to provide them with the following:

- 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.
Classes will end by 10:30 a.m.
To ensure timely arrival for 11:00 a.m. class, depart first classroom visit location by 10:40 a.m.
- 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
Classes will end by noon.
To ensure timely arrival for the luncheon, depart second classroom visit location by 12:10 p.m.

Lunch will start promptly at 12:30 p.m. in the Thompson Student Services Center, Rooms 207 A, B, & C.
Alumni Return to Serve participants only as Lunch is invitation only
Join a diverse panel of alumni for a panel discussion, Q&A, and networking. Alumni will provide advice on the Global World- the benefits of studying/and or working abroad; the marketability of speaking another language; the willingness to be mobile i.e., relocating, effective networking/job search strategies, interview preparation, negotiation, and the college- to-work transition.
