Letter from Chancellor Robinson – Athletics Director Search

Dear Rams,

I deeply appreciate those of you who engaged in the search process for the Director of Athletics position this spring. Your thoughtful feedback and insightful comments were critically important as we evaluated the three finalists for the position. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to participate in the process.

The three individuals who visited campus were all outstanding candidates; however, based on the feedback from the search committee, from those who attended the open forums, and from my one-on-one interactions, I do not believe we have found an individual who is a perfect fit for this role. The position of Athletic Director is a critical one for Winston-Salem State University. The individual in this position is responsible for a complex operation with 11 programs, more than 40 coaches and support staff, and approximately 275 student-athletes. It is vital that this position is filled by a strategic leader who can motivate and inspire.

In the coming weeks, the Director of Athletics position will be posted and a new search will be underway to fill this vital position. It is our goal to have the position filled by Dec. 31, 2019. In the meantime, George Knox will continue to serve as Interim Director of Athletics.

As always, I appreciate your time and effort.

Sincerely,

Elwood L. Robinson, Ph.D.
