Students & AI

Did you Know?

Based on our Fall 2025 survey conducted on 183 WSSU students

  • 78% of WSSU students are using GenAI for coursework
  • Only 27% clearly understand what's allowed and what's not
  • 72% feel confident using AI responsibly, but only 26% are confident they follow policies correctly

This gap is why we created this site - to help you understand and use AI appropriately. AI can help you learn but using it improperly can harm your education and violate academic integrity policies.

What You Should Do What You Should Not Do
  • Use AI to brainstorm ideas
  • Get explanations of concepts
  • Create study guides
  • Get writing feedback
  • Submit AI text as your own work
  • Use AI when not permitted
  • Skip developing critical thinking
  • Share sensitive information

Always Remember

  • Check your syllabus for the instructor's AI policy
  • Disclose when you've used AI
  • Cite AI tools properly
  • Be able to explain any AI-generated content

How to Properly Cite AI Tools

If you use Generative AI for coursework, you must clearly document your use.
Include a brief statement that:

  • Explains how you used AI (for example: choosing a topic, brainstorming ideas, creating an outline, revising text, or generating images or media)
  • Lists the AI tool(s) you used
  • Describes how you changed, edited, or built on the AI-generated content
  • When possible, includes a link to the AI conversation. If a link is not available, you may include screenshots in an appendix.

The following links provide information on how to cite Generative AI tools for specific citation styles:
